Ellen hummed quietly to herself as she busied herself around the house. She really had nothing to do, but knew she couldn't distract herself with working on any new designs or start sewing. Not on Halloween night. Kids would come over soon, and she needed to keep the focus on the door to give out candy. Would be easier if I could just leave the bowl out. she thought briefly before shaking her head. Kids could be greedy things, and always took more than they should if a bowl was left out. Sometimes would teal the bowl altogether. And Ellen did not fancy loosing a good bowl.

A soft sigh left her lips as she thought about it, but the sound of the doorbell distracted her soon enough. "First ones of the night." she said to herself before making her way to the door with a smile on her face. Though she didn't have much patience with them, she did like children well enough. Opening the door, she greeted the trick-or-treaters warmly before holding out the bowl and instructing of one handful per child.

This became the respective pattern through out the night, the candy bowl being refilled whenever it was running low. There had been an assortment of costumes that came to her door. The typical ghosts and witches, along with characters that she assumed form some cartoon that had grown popularity. A few superheroes and princesses, and even a few characters from her own childhood. A nostalgic smile grew on Ellen's face from the sight.

When it grew late, and chances of kids showing up decreased, she allowed herself to relax more. The calm blonde woman had just settled on the couch when she heard scratching at the door. Puzzled, she arose from her chair and went to answer, excepting a child being more creative with their knocking or a cat that mistook her home for another's. What she did not expect was the green bat creature that rushed at her as soon as she opened the door. With a horrified shriek, she swat at it before trying to run away. But it latched onto her hair and crawled up to her neck. Pain filled her body as its claws and teeth attacked her skin.

She thrashed and shrieked, trying to dislodged the beast from her neck. But it was relentless. The vile thing took off just as the pain became too much for her. She fell to the floor unconscious, pain filling her body as she became unaware of what would await her in the morning.
