He hummed softly as he walked through the woods. He was still rather unfamiliar with the town, and decided to explore. And since it was Halloween, it was an added bonus. He loved Halloween nights, loved the atmosphere, the feeling that…anything could happen on this night, this one night of the year. Witches could jump out and snatch you, boogey-men really were under the bed, if you cared to look…he loved the feeling. And besides, with everyone trick-or-treating he could wander around without any strange looks. It wasn’t his fault that the only real time he could walk around was late at night, it was just when his Café closed.

Alright, maybe he could do something about it, as he was the owner, but he didn’t want to. The young man was suddenly pulled out of his musings by a strange rumbling in the ground and a sudden green tinge to everything. He looked up, blinking. “now, why is the sky neon green? We’re too far from the city for light pollution…” which was exactly why he’d come here in the first place. Star gazing was a hobby of his.

He was staring at the sky in relative confusion when the bat..things came through the trees. A few of them picked him up by the collar and flew him above the treetops, Joseph struggling in their grasp. He continued to wriggle and struggle until with an ominous rip, he fell down into the trees, though he’d grabbed a few of his tormentors in his panic of falling. They rolled and crashed through the branches, bouncing from one limb and breaking another, till he was deposited on the ground with a very angry, half dead little green thing in his hands. The creature bit his hand and climbed up the young man’s arm, giving him a terrific slash on his collar bone. Joseph yelled in pain and knocked the thing away, throwing it to the ground and proceeding to smash it into stillness with his shoe.

He stood up finally holding the limp, but still somehow breathing thing in his hands and showed it to the other demons in grim victory. “yea, yea see him?! I’ll do the exact same thing if you try anything you freaky little gremlins!” well…he looked down at the small, unconscious thing in his hands. He couldn’t tell if it was a he or a she, actually. He shrugged and coughed and groaned, touching his neck. It was time to head back to the café, he had medical supplies there. He tucked the little demon into his pocket and began walking back, the other creatures keeping their distance but never letting him out of their sight.
